The church is like a building, and Christians are the building blocks, or stones, of that building. This shows how important each person is to the bigger picture. The idea of coming up with your own religious beliefs is not encouraged. Instead, traits like obedience, self-denial, and bravery are gained by giving ourselves to a greater purpose. It’s also crucial to understand our place within a larger group and the importance of having a solid base.
1. Foundation
Being a ‘living stone’ means fully accepting the Word of God as taught by the apostles and prophets. Picking and choosing parts of the scripture to follow can lead to shaky ground. The only solid base is Jesus Christ, and we need to build our lives on His teachings to really be a part of God’s house.
2. The building rises
Real change is essential, which means truly understanding your own faults and the value of Christ. This process helps us see our shortcomings and how much we need Christ, setting us apart from worldly views. It stresses the importance of acceptance, personal growth, spiritual development, and using our unique talents to show Christ to the world. At the same time, it encourages obedience, unity, and close bonds within the church community.
