Grace and Money

Acts 4:32–37

Early Christians stood out because of their special way of dealing with money. They were incredibly generous, and this helped build a strong community. This attitude towards money, which was rooted in their experience of God’s grace, played a big role in spreading the message of Jesus Christ. The way Christianity, a religion of grace, changes our view on wealth is very different from religions that focus more on good deeds.

1. If you’ve experienced the grace of God, it changes how you think about money

We can see a clear difference in how Christians and non-Christians view money. Non-Christians often see money as something they own, while Christians see it as God’s gift to be shared generously. The power of God’s grace can change how we think about money, like how Scrooge changed in the story “A Christmas Carol”. The story of the rich young ruler shows us that it’s hard to understand this without experiencing grace. It reminds us that faith in Jesus, not money, brings salvation.

2. Grace changes the way you give

When we experience God’s grace, the way we give also changes. We become more active and thoughtful about giving, rather than just doing it spontaneously. This change includes planning how to share our wealth, often using the biblical idea of tithing, which suggests giving at least 10 percent of what we earn. The important thing isn’t where the money goes or following rules strictly, but developing a heart that loves to give.

3. Grace changes what you get from giving

Being generous isn’t just about what we gain, but also the good it does for others and how it helps us grow spiritually. When we support Jesus’s mission, we bring grace to others and free ourselves from being controlled by money, as we learn to trust in God’s supply. At its heart, Christianity is about meeting Jesus and being deeply changed by Him.
