Romans 7:1–9, 18–25

Romans 6, 7, and 8 are key parts of the Bible. They tell us about how believing in Jesus can change us. Romans 7 explains our human flaws and why we need to use our faith to overcome them. By studying these parts of the Bible, we can understand our biggest struggles, what won’t help us solve them, and what will.

1. The main problem we face

In Romans 7:18-19, Paul talks about the battle inside every person: wanting to do right but being pulled towards wrong. It’s like the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which shows that even good people have a dark side. We all have to face this truth about ourselves and figure out what to do about it.

2. What won’t help us solve the problem

Some people try to fix their mistakes by following moral rules, but this just makes things worse. It makes us more aware of our faults and shows us we need to be saved. Just trying to be good isn’t enough—we need to change our hearts.

3. The real solution to our problem

Paul teaches that the rules in the Bible can guide us, but they don’t make us perfect. He uses the example of marriage to explain that we need to let go of our old selves to fully become followers of Christ. This means replacing our fears and selfishness with thankfulness, safety, and love. Paul ends by encouraging us to live with gratitude, not fear, and to pray for help in living out these teachings, remembering what Jesus did for us.
