Genealogies are boring to us. As modern readers, our eyes start to glaze over and we ask, “When will we get to some action?”
But not only was the genealogy of Jesus incredibly interesting to ancient people, but it will be to us too, if we think about its multiple meanings. We don’t understand the significance of it, but the ancient people did.
We learn three things about Christmas from this genealogy. At Christmas, 1) promise came true, 2) grace changed all categories, and 3) reality became fact.
