Devotional
FOURTH WEEK OF ADVENT – THURSDAY December 26, 2024
READ Revelation 5:1–14
John reveals the glory of the completed work of Christ—the exalted Lamb of God. He uses two special names to describe Jesus: the Lion of the tribe of Judah and the Root of David.
REFLECT
It is always profitable to reflect on the many different names by which the Messiah is called. Here are three of them: Lamb of God, Lion of Judah, and Root of David. Rather than being told why these are appropriate names or titles for Jesus, instead take a few minutes to make a list of the aspects of character or ministry each one refers to and reflect on how each gives us a greater appreciation for the wonderful and diverse nature of our savior.
PRAY
Pray that you would see Jesus (born in a manger) as the Father’s provision for our salvation, the sacrificial Lamb dying in our place. Pray that God would give you a deeper appreciation for who Christ is — the Lion who defends his people from all attack, and who is the fulfillment of all the promises made to David for a descendent who would reign forever.

This Month's Featured Book
In The Prodigal God, Tim Keller examines the way Jesus presents the parable to speak both to those who run from God and to those who try to earn his love by being good. It reveals the heart of the gospel—a message of hope for both the rebellious younger brother and the judgmental older brother, and an invitation for all to experience God’s grace.
