Advent Day 27: Joy

FOURTH WEEK OF ADVENT – FRIDAY December 29, 2023

READ Luke 2:1–21
Luke tells the story of Jesus’ birth.

REFLECT
The salvation offered in Jesus is only available to us if he actually lived and died and rose again in history. The details of Jesus’ birth are clearly located in a specific time and place, and also in an identifiable political situation (Roman taxation) and cultural world (shepherds, Jewish circumcision). This is not “once upon a time, but this time and this place witnessed by these people.”

PRAY
Dearest Jesus, thank you that you are real, not a made up myth or a story based on the solstice going from darkness to light. But you came into this world as a baby with a real body, experienced life and suffered just as we do. Thank you that we can come to you with all our tears and joys, and you know them all.

Discover how reflecting on the gospel leads to renewal

In Shaped by the Gospel, Dr. Keller shows how gospel-centered ministry is more theologically driven than program-driven. As you read, you’ll discover how reflecting on the essence, the truths, and the patterns of the gospel leads to renewal in your lives, churches and ministries.
