When we speak about being “adopted” through Christ, it means that God has chosen us to be good and pure. This idea helps us understand and cope with problems in our society, like the increase of single moms and dads who aren’t around. The amazing thing about Christianity is that we believe God, the one who made everything, can be like a Father to us. The idea of being adopted by God doesn’t mean we become something different. It means our position changes – we are now part of God’s kingdom and His family. This gives us a sense of steadiness, safety, and we don’t always have to be on guard because we know we’re part of God’s family.
