Advent Day 07: Hope

FIRST WEEK OF ADVENT – SATURDAY December 7, 2024

READ Malachi 4:1–6
In these verses we see how when Jesus returns to remake the world, he will restore his people and they will “frolic like well fed calves.” But he doesn’t just restore us individually, he will also restore parents and children to each other.

REFLECT
How significant is it that one of the results of Christ’s coming will be to heal families, turning the hearts of parents to their children, and the children to their parents? Social decay and disorder starts in the breakdown of the family, and that’s where God begins his work of renewal.

PRAY
Pray for your own family, for families in your churches, and for families who are suffering from hunger, the effects of natural disaster, or persecution for their faith. Pray that God may begin mending families, and consider how you could be a part of that.

If you would like to support the work of Gospel in Life, you can make a gift here.

Discover the deeper message in the parable of the Prodigal Son

In The Prodigal God, Tim Keller examines the way Jesus presents the parable to speak both to those who run from God and to those who try to earn his love by being good. It reveals the heart of the gospel—a message of hope for both the rebellious younger brother and the judgmental older brother, and an invitation for all to experience God’s grace.
