Luke 12:22–34

Jesus Christ’s teachings provide deep wisdom on our attitudes towards money and belongings. He kindly addresses our usual fears about money, such as not having enough or worrying about jobs, explaining why these concerns can control our minds. The solution to this anxiety is understanding where it comes from and how to break free from money’s grip.

1. That we’re anxious

Jesus speaks about the spiritual problems money can bring. He talks about how money can twist our lives, no matter how rich or poor we are. He points out that worrying about money, even for basic needs, can harm our faith just like any hardship. He uses birds as a picture of God’s care for us. If money can make us worry, it means it’s controlling us.

2. Why we’re anxious

Jesus, like a doctor, shows us the reason behind our money worries. He tells us that our fears come from forgetting that our Heavenly Father loves and cares for us. We often look for worth and safety in money, but money can’t give us the fatherly love we really need. It’s important to remember that our worth and safety come from our relationship with God, not from how much money we have.

3. How to break the power

To break money’s control over us, we need to understand that we’re not God, but His children. When we struggle with money, it shows us that we’re fragile and should trust in God, not try to control everything. As God’s children, we should depend on our Heavenly inheritance, be generous, and find real wealth in helping others.
