Ephesians 3:14–21

In Ephesians, Paul prays for believers to feel the Holy Spirit’s power, for Jesus to live in their hearts, and for them to grasp how big Jesus’s love really is. Today, many people are hungry for spiritual experiences. However, this can lead to confusion and disagreements, as some chase spiritual feelings without moral guidance, while others try to be moral without any spiritual connection. Ephesians gives us a complete picture of what it means to be a Christian, showing us how to truly know and experience God’s love and fullness.

1. The reality of the experience

Being a Christian is more than we can usually understand. It means Jesus lives in our hearts and we understand His love, leading us to a life filled with God’s complete presence. These truths are fundamental to Christianity, but there’s a deeper, more amazing experience waiting for us. Paul’s prayer encourages us to not just know about God’s love but to really feel it, hinting at a deeper connection with God that we might not have discovered yet.

2. The nature of the experience

Christian spirituality is a mix of feelings and thinking, personal responsibility within a group, and actively caring for the world in a selfless way. Getting what Paul means in his complex sentences and personally feeling God’s love can change us. The Holy Spirit helps turn what we know into something we deeply understand, and the difference between negative and positive words shows why it’s important to experience God’s love in a way that goes beyond just understanding it with our minds.
