Overview
If this was a movie, it would be noir: the poignant, tragic account of Jesus talking to Judas the night before Jesus dies. And this account of what happens to Judas is instructive for us for this reason: every culture struggles with the gospel at some point.
The gospel challenges every culture somewhere. In some non-Western cultures, they struggle with what the gospel says about free forgiveness and non-retaliation. But in our relativistic Western cultures, we mainly struggle with what the Bible says about sin.
John 13 tells us quite a bit about sin: 1) the nature and enormity of sin, 2), the power of sin, and 3) the only medicine for it.
