Tim Keller | February 6, 2005
Jesus, as God’s ultimate messenger, holds a superior position. Paying attention to His teachings is very important. Hebrews views life as a journey, moving from struggles to peace, from feeling distant from God to being in His presence, and from being alone to living in God’s city. All these changes are made possible by Jesus’ teachings. The book also points out the importance of respecting others’ choices and decisions, like in a marriage, and of recognizing the authority and amazing qualities of God’s Word.
3. How it can change our lives
The power of Jesus’ teachings, or the gospel, to transform us and the importance of focusing on His message are key ideas in Christian belief. The value of the gospel is in its power to change people’s hearts. This is highlighted when we compare the laws given by angels on Mount Sinai with Jesus’ message of full salvation through God’s kindness. The people are urged to let themselves be shaped by God’s kindness, helping them become who they truly are.
