Open Forums are specifically designed for skeptics or those wrestling with the claims of Christianity. Each Open Forum included a brief concert by guest artists followed by a talk and open mic Q&A with Timothy Keller. This audio recording includes the talk only.
1. Death is unnatural
Most people accept death as a natural part of life, but really, it isn’t. Even kids understand that there’s something not right about it. You can see this idea in art, stories and beliefs from around the world. The sad part about death is that it takes away memories and love, hinting that we are more than just physical bodies.
2. Death is an executioner
When people think about death, they often think about their actions and whether they were right or wrong, even if they’re not religious. Famous thinkers like C.S. Lewis and Albert Camus also thought a lot about death and how scary it can be. But the secret to a happy and meaningful life is to live like death isn’t a concern, even though we all know it’s coming.
3. Death can be a means of redemption
Although death can seem like a scary punishment, the story of Jesus changes that. Jesus chose to face death to overcome it. This means that if we trust in him, our wrongdoings are forgiven, and death becomes a way to grow and get better, not just an ending.
This Month's Featured Book
In Shaped by the Gospel, Dr. Keller shows how gospel-centered ministry is more theologically driven than program-driven. As you read, you’ll discover how reflecting on the essence, the truths, and the patterns of the gospel leads to renewal in your lives, churches and ministries.
