Tim Keller | June 18, 1995
In Exodus 3 and 4, we see Moses and a burning bush. This shows us a deep truth: knowing God is not about you looking for Him, but about Him calling you. It’s not about using God to get what you want, but about changing your whole life and priorities. If we’re searching for God, it’s because He’s already reached out to us, giving us a new purpose in life.
1. How Moses is called in
The idea of God calling us is something everyone can understand, but often, we push God away and make up false gods based on being good or feeling loved all the time. But, real salvation comes from turning away from sin and accepting Jesus Christ. The gospel highlights Christ’s sacrifice and reminds us that God is the only Savior and Lord.
2. How Moses is sent out
God asks us to commit our lives to something bigger than just our personal goals. He stresses the importance of His mission, truth, and people. Real happiness comes from serving others and glorifying Him, not from self-interest. Even when we push back, God keeps working with us, showing a mix of incredible power and gentle patience.
