Tim Keller | September 20, 2009
This is the last week we’re going to look at the life of David. There’s so much material about David in the Bible because there are two whole biographies of him in the Bible. There’s a biography of David written by the author of 1 and 2 Samuel, and then there’s a biography written by the author of 1 and 2 Chronicles.
Here is the end of the story of David’s life. This is the last episode in the book of Chronicles. There’s a problem here. David’s near death, impending death, creates a problem for Israel. David points his people to the presence of God, the temple, but that presence will only be realized through a practice and a promise. So if we’re going to understand what this is about, we need to look at the problem, the presence, the practice, and the promise.
This Month's Featured Book
In The Prodigal God, Tim Keller examines the way Jesus presents the parable to speak both to those who run from God and to those who try to earn his love by being good. It reveals the heart of the gospel—a message of hope for both the rebellious younger brother and the judgmental older brother, and an invitation for all to experience God’s grace.
