Advent Day 09: Peace

SECOND WEEK OF ADVENT – MONDAY December 9, 2024

READ Isaiah 60:1–22
A prophecy and description of the New Jerusalem—the future glorious state that Christ will usher in when he comes again.

REFLECT
The prophecies in Isaiah 60 seem to be predicting a future era in which Jerusalem and Judah enjoy economic prosperity and political power (“the riches of the nations”). If you look carefully, you will notice it references something that had never before happened and that could never happen in human history without God’s intervention. In verse 18 and the verses that follow, the passage talks about a society where there is no violence, no war, no sorrow or sadness. There will no longer be a need for the sun or the moon (Isaiah 60:19). We are looking at the new heaven and new earth.

We are told in Isaiah 55:12 that when God comes back to renew the world, “You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the fields will clap their hands.” This is the destiny of God’s people when Christ returns.

PRAY
Pray for specific ways that you, your friends and family, and your church will participate in mercy ministries this season. Pray for specific families who will receive gifts of care, that their hearts will be prepared for the good news of our living, saving Jesus.
