Blessed Self-Forgetfulness

Paul commands us to be filled with the Spirit.
Paul doesn’t say, “It would be a great thing to attain if you could. Try really hard.” No, he commands that we “be filled with the Spirit.”
Let’s ask this short text three questions: 1) what is being filled with the Spirit? 2) how do we know if we are filled with the Spirit? and 3) how can we become filled with the Spirit?

Deep down we all know something isn’t right with the world when we see the violence and injustice all around us. Like anything that needs to be fixed, the problem must first be identified. That problem is clearly identified in the Bible: it’s sin. And the remedy is just as clear: Jesus Christ.
