The Lord’s Anointed

1 Samuel 16:1–13

This part of the Bible starts with Hannah dreaming of a king who uses power rightly. It goes on to talk about Samuel’s sadness over the failings of King Saul. But, there’s hope because God promises a real king who can teach people how to act like true royalty. This story reminds us of our desire for fairness and a world where people serve each other, not use each other. It also highlights how important it is to have good character, and to recognize God, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus.

1. The seeing God

The key message here is about looking beyond what we can see on the surface and focusing on the heart. It warns us not to be fooled by unimportant things. Our society often values physical beauty too much, and that can harm us. Instead, we should value people based on their character, because that’s what truly matters. The message also encourages self-reflection and personal growth, and reminds us of the importance of love and character in our spiritual life.

2. The rushing Spirit

Having good character is important but it’s also hard. It means we have to move beyond our natural selfishness and bad habits. The Holy Spirit helps us do this. It guides us to serve others and live in a way that pleases God, even when things are tough. Real happiness comes from having good character. But how do we get such character?

3. The forgotten Son

God often works through those who society sees as weak or unimportant. This highlights the value of inner qualities over looks or status. A big part of the story is about how Jesus, a powerful being, made a huge sacrifice out of love. The message encourages us to find fulfillment in Jesus, not just in worldly success. The final prayer asks for God’s help in living out these teachings and gaining wisdom through the Holy Spirit.
